Meet Angela

IMG_1886Hello! I’m Angela (with my husband, Dan),  and I’m thrilled you’ve stopped by my little corner of the internet. I live in sunny North Carolina, where I get to be MOM to 3 rowdy boys and 1 sweet little girl.

17 years ago, I stood up front with this guy and we said our vows as little babies, having no idea the beautiful chaos {or the adventure} ahead. We are proud owners of exactly-the-opposite Myers-Briggs letters. So there have been some issues to work out along the way. Just a few…hundred or so. BUT GOD. He has worked so much beauty in our marriage, and thankfully, His work never ends.

Writing Is My Favorite

I’ve been a writer ever since I learned to form letters. When I was 7, I copied a storybook in my own handwriting and imagined growing up to be Ludwig Bemelmans. {Read that story here.} Later, I became a poet and scratched lines on every inch of white space in every notebook I owned. Writing has always been my way of figuring out what I think.

Through the years, I have enjoyed many opportunities to write–for the newspaper, on yearbook staff, and creating newsletters for various organizations. After earning a degree from Cedarville University in 1998, for Professional & Technical Communication, I wrote Public Relations literature at International Business Machines Corporation (IBM).

When our 3rd baby arrived and I spent my days at home, I woke up to 3 kids under 4 years old. Naturally, this was the time I realized, I absolutely need to write, maybe only for sanity’s sake. Learning to write consistently in this Mom-life has been a process, but I’m learning to be content with that, even when the process is slow. After all, as one of my favorite lullabies sang, “They’re only little for a little while…”

My Other Favorites

If I have free time, I often indulge in other people’s words. I love to read many genres of fiction, nonfiction, and especially poetry. I also love to paint, sing, drink unsweetened iced tea, and wipe kitchen countertops. Kidding…but only on the last one. Organizing closets makes me insanely happy, and I’ll re-watch movies that tear my heart out {but I won’t say how many times}.

Travel is my favoritest favorite. We live a couple hours from the beach, so we spend days there as often as possible. In recent years, we’ve wandered all over Europe–Lucerne, Lisbon, Paris, Rome, Dublin, and more. {I’m a little obsessed.}

I also run and teach homeschool, both of which I love, at least sometimes. Oh, and I pretend to be a professional photographer (all photos on this blog are my own). Maybe some day!

Something Better

More than anything, I love my Lord and King, Jesus Christ.

For so many years of my life, I realize I was just waiting to become something better–now I rest in Someone Better instead.

God has been so good to me, and I am forever changed by His grace and beauty.

That’s the reason I blog here, at So Much Beauty in All This Chaos.

I hope to encourage you (& remind myself) to see so much beauty hidden within the chaos of our lives.

The Lord surrounds us with beauty, like so many gifts waiting for anyone who is willing to notice. May we fix our eyes on Jesus, and let go of everything that keeps us from knowing Him more.

If anything I write here resonates with you, please share it with your friends and on social media.

Also, you are welcome to email me at any time at angela (at) angelaparlin (dot) com.  Thank you for stopping by! I’m glad you’re here.

Sincerely, Angela
